Mike Gibbs:

Mike Gibbs

Managing Director. Mike, with Martin and Ben, set up Te Ngahere Ltd in 1996 after working for the Department of Conservation in the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park.

He has been involved in developing the company and all its internal systems since this time. He left Auckland in 2003 to set up a branch in Christchurch. Mike has been active in the field and his skills have evolved with the industry; he has a working knowledge of the standards and procedures required to complete all works undertaken, and has a sound understanding of the company’s legal obligations. He has had 17 years experience in planning and executing projects in isolated and remote areas, the majority of which have involved the use of helicopters.

Mike has a Degree in Parks and Recreation Mgmt and is a Licensed Builder (Carpentry, Site 1). He holds a current First Aid certificate, level 3 and 4 Industrial Rope Access qualifications from Tai Poutini Polytechnic (NZQA, Basic and Vertical Rope Rescue from SARINZ (Search and Rescue Institute NZ) and has completed Basic and Advanced Helicopter Safety and Ariel Lifting Support Courses through Skywork Helicopters Ltd. He sits on the executive committee of IRAANZ (Industrial Rope Access NZ).

Steven Beeney

steve-beeneyDirector, Construction Manager. Steve was born into a family of builders and has been on site since the age of 6. As part of his learning curve, Steven spent time with all trades in the traditional building scene. To further his skills, Steven completed a 4-year boatbuilding apprenticeship with W.A. Souter and Sons, Cowes, Isle of Wight but the recession led to a move back into the house building marketplace.

Steve’s skills evolved and he eventually owned his own construction company which he operated for 20 years. Skills learnt and practiced over this period were: carpentry, first and second fix, traditional cut roof, trusses, roof finished, slate, rosemary tile, concrete, tile, brick and blocklaying, plastering and wall/floor tiling, glazing, plumbing and drainlaying, etc (including lead flashings and gutter work). All these skills were put to use on old, new, historic, traditional and timber frame projects ranging from a new doors to new houses. Steven worked with Te Ngahere Ltd for 6 years after relocating to New Zealand and enjoyed the challenge of matching his skills with the planning and logistics of backcountry work.

In 2009 Steve became a partner in Solutions 2 Access, and is now a director along with Mike, Martin and Ben. He has a current first aid certificate, a blasting ticket and industrial rope work levels 3 and 4. Steve is a Licensed Building Practitioner and heads our construction team.

Martin Freeman:

martin-freeDirector, Project Manager (Geotechnical). Martin was the Managing Director of Te Ngahere Ltd and has now moved to Christchurch to continue with Solutions 2 Access. He has had 10 years experience managing a large company employing over 55 staff with an annual turnover in excess of $4,000,000.00.

Martin has been involved in the establishment of all of our internal systems and has overseen our finances and cash flow management, he will continue to do this for Solutions 2 Access. He has been active in the field completing a number of interesting and challenging projects throughout NZ. Martin has a postgraduate qualification in Remote Sensing, a level 3 and 4 Industrial Rope Access qualification and a current blasting ticket.
